Welcome Rohan Campbell-Smith

It's A Boy!

Welcome Rohan Connor Campbell-Smith!
Born: Saturday, August 18th 2012
Time: 08:51am
Location:
Forth Valley Royal Infirmary
Larbert, Stirling, Scotland, UK
Weighing: 9lbs 1/2oz.

Rohan and I once I finally got the use of my arms back. He doesn't look happy about being taken off Daddy does he?

He's finally here! After 10 months of waiting, Rohan started thinking about coming on the Friday of the 17th. After 17 hours of a slightly tricky labour that ended up having me stuck to a bed instead of the water birth we had planned (like I said before, nothing goes to plan) Rohan was delivered by caesarian at 08:51, even though Mummy had an allergic reaction to the spinal... Mummy was having one of those days...

First they had to break her waters, then she was confined to the bed because someone decided they'd have a bowl movement inside her belly, after managing to go through almost all the labour without pain relief she caved and got diamorphine which made her sick, then we were told mummy wasn't progressing past 6cm so they decided to make her contractions worse which resulted in an Epidural that had to be done THREE times, only to find that the heightened contractions weren't working and Mummy was STILL 6cm's along and growing very tired for she could still feel the contractions through the epidural. With that the Dr's decided the safest option now was to deliver Rohan via c-section. The spinal thankfully only had to be done once, but then mummy had a reaction and lost feeling from the neck downwards, which resulted in not being able to breath and throwing up at the same time (who knew that was possible!?) After they'd stabilized mummy they began surgery and pulled Rohan out announcing he was a boy! Luckily Daddy got to see as Mummy couldn't lift her head very well and they didn't lower the screen enough for her to see. When they brought Rohan back they placed him on Mummy's chest, but he couldn't stay long as she'd lost the use of her arms and couldn't hold him as he was slipping! Mummy got to watch Daddy do skin-to-skin contact as they put mummy back together. After awhile Mummy started to feel pain in her stomach as they (what she thought) stitched her up. Later she'd find out she had 24 staples, not stitches, and a nice huge scar across her belly due to their being too much oedema in the bottom of her bump causing them to make a bigger cut in order to reach him... Oh, and that she'd lost almost 3 pints of blood during the surgery, which they didn't mention until the next day. So much for a birth plan huh!
It was worth every second...even though mummy hopes she never has to have a caesarean again.

After three days we finally got to go home!
Which was good because I was sick of looking at the same four walls and annoying midwives, who each had their own way of doing things, so one always contradicted the one before.
But It didn't matter because I had my boys, who made sure I was well looked after. Along with the other mothers I shared a ward with. I hope they're all well at home now enjoying their little girls, as Rohan was the only boy on the ward that week and boy did he know it!

From Right to Left: Rohan, My Father, Ralph, and My Brother Tom.
