Dog sitting
It was actually really nice to have a canine in the house all this weekend, it's been ages since I've had a dog running about for me to trip over. As we are still trying to get my dog over here to the UK from the US. A long drawn out process that we'll talk about another time.
Tia, pictured above looking bored out of her mind, came to stay at ours while her "Daddy" was attending a wedding all weekend. Working from home I spend a lot of the day editing at the couch or running errands around the house while Ralph is at work. So it was nice to have some company for a change who also came in handy if anyone "weird" came to the door.
Tia is a Labrador whose very in love with her man, actually men in general. But that's usually how it goes, female dog loves man, male dog loves woman. Don't know why? The first time we met she didn't really notice I was their until her "Daddy" left and then she wouldn't let me come near her. It was understandable as I wouldn't either if I'd been left with a strange, smelly, woman who kept talking to me like a goof ball.
But since then she doesn't seem to mind me at all, she cuddled up on the couch while I edited, and answered/made phone calls. She slept at the foot of the bed and kept my feet warm and followed me whenever I needed to go to the bathroom, at first I thought it was because she just wanted to be around someone but I started to notice it was more like she was making sure 'I' was alright.
I didn't realize how much I missed "my shadow"!
For me, our family home has never been complete without a pet. Growing up we always had some kind of animal, Rabbits, snakes, Guinea pigs, rats, cats, dogs, we even had a possum for a while. Strays ended up hearing the word and trekking into our back garden or front door. So to go from constantly having people and animals bugging you to an empty house just felt so wrong! I find it harder to focus the less noise there is and I'm pretty sure I've turned into the old lady who has her T.V. on in the background just for the company.
But that's me, lots of people function without pets, or couldn't stand having to pick up or look after an animal. It's understandable, after all they're another thing that needs to be fed and watered, another thing that poops and needs to be entertained. It's something that can't be left to it's own devices, you HAVE to notice it's there!
I will always be an animal person, even if I moan about the hassle of the thing being there. If you asked me to give it up I'd gasp in shock and tell you you were crazy for even thinking that! But I can be a little mellow dramatic....
