Moving & Packing Printables

When it comes to moving I find it highly stressful! As does anyone uplifting their entire home and moving across town/to another city or country. It's a daunting task that takes up nearly all of your time, let alone any "free time".

I have a busy mind, and in order to sort it I have to write it down on paper, then I usually lose that piece of paper. SO, when it came to moving our family again I was determined to be as organized as possible and hope that this would make it a little less stressful if anything.

The first thing I did was create a Moving Folder.
Organized by these categories.

1.Details of new house - Address, landlord contact information, Rent, etc.
2. Check-lists - Moving checklist, cleaning supply's, stuff to sell etc.
3.Utilities - these were things like the new electric and gas company, energy rating for the house etc. These can also go under no#1 if you wish but I wanted them separate.
4. Change of Address - All the company's I needed to discontinue or re-connect at the old and new house.
5. Packing Inventory - List of boxes, where they're supposed to go, and what's in them so I can easily find everything at the new house.
6. Product Manuals - All the details on our fridges, freezers and other things like this and house to un-install and install them (in case we have trouble on moving day)
7. Take Away Menus/Coupons - Menu's/numbers of the local take-outs near the old & new house, as you probably wont have time to cook!

First things first - Moving Checklist
You'll rely on this check-list prior and after your move to make sure you've remembered everything. Once you have one of these you'll feel a whole lost better, remember to leave room for things you remember to add to the check- list later.

Second thing you'll need to do - Sell your crap!
Every time we move, I'm amazed at how much stuff we actually have! And usually when that happens it means you're probably not using most of it. So get rid of it, better yet, sell it! If you do it well, it just may well pay for the whole move!

Third - Contact Electric, Broadband, etc. to determine a cut-off date.
and reconnect if need be. If you do this in advance, chances are everything will be able to be disconnected the day you move. Also while you're at it, hire a moving company/truck if need be.

Fourth to do - Determine what NOT TO PACK
Make sure you don't pack anything you're going to need out on the moving day, as you really don't want to be unpacking until you get to the house, or worse, realize it's on the truck and you can't even get to it!.

Fifth - Start Packing!
Assign the rooms of the new house colours and pack boxes accordingly.
Make colour cards to pop on the doors of those rooms so that people carrying boxes know where to put them.

Last but not least - Refer back to you moving checklist
Now start ticking off everything to do after the move!

They've made everything a whole lot easier to keep track of! Thankfully I didn't lose the binder!
